Our approach maximises value, service quality and tailored ongoing support.

Garran Advisory’s mission is to assist and support the development of best practice policy aimed at addressing the complex, multifaceted challenges currently facing Australia, including:

  • achieving a more efficient national health service and getting more value for money spent;

  • aiding an effective energy transition;

  • relieving Australia’s housing shortages;

  • protecting our trade routes;

  • providing appropriate support for our aging population; and

  • accessing critical goods and services in a de-globalising environment.

External forces, such as the imposition of tariffs in overseas markets and regional conflicts, are exacerbating these challenges.

Garran Advisory’s approach to project work also stands out from other providers. We will seek to work with the public service on a collaborative basis to deliver superior policy outcomes that are capable of practical implementation and will achieve significant benefits for Australia.

Our approach is to create a bespoke team for each project. On a typical project, our teams comprise:

  1. One or more Senior Advisors, who have had leadership positions in the public service and have significant relevant experience.

  2. Academics and other experts (including leading international experts) who have particular knowledge and expertise on the issues being sought to be addressed by the particular project. Our relationships with schools of public policy and our connections in relevant jurisdictions, including with former civil servants, enables us to deliver this important element of our approach.

  3. Experienced consultants and analysts who underpin and help drive the advisory process and deliverables required on a project-by-project basis.

At Garran Advisory, we are also well versed in leveraging technology and artificial intelligence (AI). Our advice is not only delivered with the benefit of technology and AI but embeds the use of technological innovations where appropriate to provide better solutions and outcomes.

Garran understands the importance of both working efficiently and delivering efficient processes in the work of government. We understand that one of the key concerns of many civil servants is to ensure efficiency and productivity as well as improve outcomes. Accordingly, we provide advice that is focused on all of these things. Risk management is also of the utmost importance in any activity; our advice will include a risk assessment that identifies the most likely risks and ways of mitigating these risks.
